Schools serving students who are blind or have low vision may be able to access accessible textbooks, instructional tools, library materials, and shipping support at no charge. Eligibility and enrollment rules apply.

APH Federal Quota

Eligible students registered through the American Printing House for the Blind’s Federal Quota Program generate credits that state and local programs can use for APH textbooks, braille and large-print materials, and specialized instructional tools. Ask your district’s Federal Quota contact or Ex Officio Trustee about annual registration and ordering.

Bookshare

Qualified U.S. students can receive Bookshare membership at no cost through U.S. Department of Education funding. Schools and districts may create free organizational accounts to assign accessible ebooks to eligible learners.

National Library Service

The Library of Congress NLS offers free braille and audio books, magazines, downloads, and playback equipment to eligible readers. Schools and other institutions serving multiple eligible users can also apply.

Accessible media

The Described and Captioned Media Program offers educational media with audio description, captioning, and ASL. Its collection includes material for deaf-blind education across grade levels.
